A marriage with a young woman whom he had met at a dance in Birmingham five days before, was mentioned at the Old Bailey yesterdaywhen Sidney Bowman, aged 29, a broker, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment in the second division for bigamy and theft.
After the marriage, said Mr. Arthur Bryan, who appeared for the prosecution, the copule stayed at an hotel in Birmingham, and on the pleas that he had no change the husband left the bride to pay the bill.
They went to Claridge's Hotel in London, and a few days later, as she thought he had deceived her, the bride left and went to Brussels with he friends.
He followed, and suggested that a divorce should be arranged in America.
She gave him £70, and he appeared to have gone to America, but nothing came of the visit.
Six months later - in October last - Bowman went through the marriage ceremony with a Miss Dalgleish, who stated that he was kind to her and that she had lived happily with him.
